Four Baltimore Police officers were hospitalized Tuesday morning after attempting to arrest a 29-year-old man who resisted and fought them, according to authorities.

The incident began around 10:30 a.m. in the 200 block of North Highland Avenue when a 17-year-old approached officers and reported being assaulted by Bryant Maurice Allen, police said.

When officers located Allen in the Ellwood Park neighborhood, he allegedly took a fighting stance and declared he was not going anywhere. As officers attempted to take him into custody, Allen fled. During the ensuing foot chase, he allegedly punched one officer, police said.

Officers used mace and a Taser to subdue Allen before tackling him and placing him in handcuffs. All four officers, along with Allen and the 17-year-old, were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Allen will face charges once he is released from the hospital.

“Our officers put themselves in harm’s way every single day to protect this city, and it is just truly unacceptable when they are assaulted while simply doing their jobs,” said Police Commissioner Richard Worley in a statement. “We will not tolerate attacks on law enforcement or anyone in our community.”
