Gayle King is riding high after making history with an all-female flight to space—and now, she’s got her eyes on new goals. The 70-year-old journalist recently joked about what could be next for her after traveling to the edge of space with Blue Origin earlier this month.

At the TIME 100 Gala on April 24, Gayle was asked what she’d love to accomplish next. Without missing a beat, she laughed, “Getting married,” before quickly following up with, “No, piercing my ears.” Either way, it’s clear she’s keeping life interesting and refusing to slow down.

Gayle’s space journey on April 14 lasted about 11 minutes but left a lasting impact. She joined a group of trailblazing women including Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez for Blue Origin’s special flight, and afterward, she shared just how meaningful the experience was for her.

“I really am proud of me, because I never in a gazillion years thought I could do this,” she said after landing. “I walked out of there thinking, ‘Gosh, I can do anything!’”

But when it comes to matters of the heart, Gayle is just as real and candid. She’s spoken openly about dating challenges—especially as a public figure. During a sit-down on The Tamron Hall Show in May 2024, she admitted that finding someone while being in the spotlight isn’t easy.

“If I could go on a dating app and people didn’t know it was me, that’d be nice,” she said. “I think it’s hard when you’re a public person. So you just hope a friend of a friend introduces you to someone.”

Gayle, who was married to William Bumpus from 1982 to 1993, is the proud mom of two adult children, Kirby and William Jr. Now, she’s open to finding a new partner—ideally someone younger, but not too young. “I don’t want to date somebody I could have given birth to,” she laughed, adding, “I don’t want to be a nurse or a purse.”

She also shared her wishlist for a future partner: someone with confidence, kindness, and yes—teeth. “That would be nice,” she joked. But most importantly, Gayle wants someone who “celebrates you, who is excited for you, and is comfortable in their own skin.”

From conquering space to keeping it real about love and aging, Gayle King proves time and time again that she’s fearless, funny, and full of heart. And whether she ends up with a new husband or just new earrings, she’s showing the world what living boldly really looks like.
