Man Dies After Barricade Standoff In Baltimore County

A barricade situation in Dundalk on Tuesday resulted in the death of a man, Baltimore County police confirmed.
The incident prompted lockdowns at multiple schools in the area as officers dealt with an armed suspect.
Authorities placed Battle Grove Elementary, Charlesmont Elementary, and General John Stricker Middle School on lockdown around 9 a.m. A fourth school, Battle Monument Elementary, was put on lockout at noon as a precaution. Meanwhile, local residents were advised to shelter in place.
The barricade ended at approximately 1 p.m.
The situation began early in the morning when a neighbor reported property damage from gunfire around 7:30 a.m. Responding officers arrived at the 2500 block of Gray Manor Terrace, where they were met with gunfire from a nearby home. Officers returned fire and quickly established a barricade.
The standoff drew a large response from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as well as Harford County and Baltimore City police.
Crisis negotiation and tactical teams worked for hours to de-escalate the situation. Eventually, officers entered the home and discovered the suspect had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man owned the residence or what led to the initial gunfire. A woman exited the home during the standoff, but police have not clarified whether she was being held against her will.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
